TL;DR
Mechanisms & Payload Internship (Aerospace): Designing, building, testing, and operating electromechanical spacecraft and payload hardware with an accent on mechanical CAD, fabrication, programming, and test campaigns. Focus on developing flight mechanisms, microgravity pharmaceutical manufacturing payloads, hosted payloads, and custom test equipment through full-cycle design, analysis, build, test, and flight work.

Location: Full-time on-site in Los Angeles, California, United States

Salary: $33.00 per hour

hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing payloads, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses.

What you will do

  • Design or support hardware and software development for spacecraft and payloads.
  • Create and support test campaigns and build test stands.
  • Perform analysis for hardware development and testing.
  • Design, analyze, build, test, and potentially fly mechanisms, payloads, prototypes, and test equipment.
  • Collaborate with specialists across programming, mechatronics, structures, fabrication, and testing.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program.
  • Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar engineering field.
  • Experience with mechanical CAD; NX is preferred.
  • Experience designing, building, or operating electromechanical hardware such as motors, sensors, linkages, gearboxes, or solenoids.
  • Basic programming skills in at least one language; Python is preferred.
  • Comfort using hand tools and interest in learning machine tools such as drill presses, lathes, and mills.

Nice to have

  • Previous internship or co-op experience.
  • Experience on technical project teams such as rocket clubs or Formula SAE.
