Software Engineer (Java/Spring Boot)

Location: Remote; Sydney, Australia listed in the conditions. Hiring is possible in any country where hirify.global has a legal entity.

What you will do

• Build and operate production services and ingestion pipelines for the Teamwork Graph platform.
• Own backend features from design through production using Java, Spring Boot, Kafka or other event buses, and DynamoDB-style stores.
• Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, runbook improvements, ingestion failure triage, and dead-letter queue cleanup and replay.
• Design and review ADRs and RFCs, contribute to architecture discussions, and optimize schemas and pipelines.
• Ensure permission-aware search results and graph entities, while maintaining data quality and operational reliability.
• Build dashboards and alerting, improve throughput, troubleshoot performance and scaling issues, and collaborate across domain teams.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional experience building and operating backend services in production.
• Strong proficiency in Java or another JVM language and Spring Boot or an equivalent modern framework.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, data consistency, event-driven or CDC pipelines, message queues, and idempotency.
• Experience with AWS, containerization, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, monitoring, and on-call support.
• Ability to drive features from design to production and communicate clearly through design documents and cross-team collaboration.
• Employment is available in countries where hirify.global has a legal entity.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kafka, Kinesis, Flink, or other streaming platforms and stream-processing systems.
• Exposure to permission or ACL propagation, multi-tenancy, data residency, or region routing.
• Experience integrating third-party sources such as GitHub, Slack, or Google Drive, or building connector and ingestion frameworks.
• Experience operating high-throughput, low-latency systems with strong observability practices.
