Software Engineer II, Backend (Streaming)

Location: Remote Canada; candidates must reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.

Base pay: CAD 133,000–183,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design and scale event-driven data infrastructure and stream-processing systems.
• Identify and implement new use cases for data infrastructure using technologies such as Kafka, Flink, and Schema Registry.
• Break down larger projects into phases, deliver individual tasks, and collaborate with product management, design, analytics, and engineering stakeholders.
• Create and monitor operational metrics, support on-call activities, and maintain service availability.
• Participate in technical ideation, architectural decisions, code reviews, and engineering interviews.

Requirements

• 1.5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems.
• Proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed systems and AWS, Kafka, Flink, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to write clear, well-tested, extensible code, navigate large codebases, debug existing code, and provide code review feedback.
• Equivalent practical experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
