TL;DR
Patient Care Technician (Medical Surgical M3 Unit) (Orthopedic and acute care): Providing direct patient care for orthopedic, spine, trauma, and adult acute care patients with an accent on activities of daily living, mobility support, vital signs, hygiene, and trained clinical procedures. Focus on assisting with joint-replacement recovery, responding to changing patient needs, and maintaining safety during transfers, treatments, and emergency situations.

Location: Lowell General Hospital, Main Campus M3, Lowell, Massachusetts, United States. On-site day/evening shifts from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; every other Saturday and Sunday weekend shifts and holiday coverage are required.

Base pay: $20.12–$25.15 per hour, based on full-time equivalent.

What you will do

  • Provide attentive, timely care to patients and family members while maintaining a professional and caring demeanor.
  • Assist with examinations, procedures, and trained clinical tasks, including vital signs, weights, glucometer testing, urinalysis, and blood glucose measurements.
  • Support activities of daily living, meals, hygiene, ambulation, transfers, and responses to patient call lights.
  • Maintain patient safety, skin integrity, and skeletal-muscular alignment through repositioning, dressings, supportive appliances, and related care.
  • Assist with ostomy care, hot and cold applications, linens, briefs, bedpans, urinals, and catheters.
  • Obtain, document, and reconcile allergy and medication lists.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Ability to lift 30–35 pounds, turn patients, and stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, organization, prioritization, and adaptability skills.
  • Ability to work under stress, manage interruptions and emergencies, and care for critically ill patients.
  • Ability to use fine manual dexterity and operate a computer keyboard.

Nice to have

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in healthcare or nursing services.
  • Completed EKG and phlebotomy courses.
