Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Crossman Service Building, Sunnyvale, California, United States

Annual salary: $143,000–$286,000 in Sunnyvale; $110,000–$220,000 in Bentonville. Additional compensation may include performance bonuses and stock.

What you will do

• Deliver platform capabilities, including infrastructure, developer tooling, and ML frameworks.
• Lead the full software development lifecycle across coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Apply cloud-native architecture principles to build scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
• Conduct system design reviews and prototypes to validate feasibility and architectural alignment.
• Build AI-driven applications and integrate ML components for automation and intelligent features.
• Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, document solutions, and collaborate with stakeholders on measurable outcomes.

Requirements

• 4 years of software engineering experience with a relevant bachelor's degree, or 6 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java and experience with software design patterns and API design.
• Expertise in cloud-native architecture, microservices, containers, automation, CI/CD, and observability.
• Experience with platform engineering, infrastructure tooling, and AI/ML integration.
• Ability to conduct design reviews, prototype software, apply data-driven decision-making, and mentor engineers.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area, with 2 years of software engineering experience.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility practices.
