Staff Engineer (Java/AI)

What you will do

• Provide technical architecture and leadership across claims communications, orchestration, channel delivery, and document platforms.
• Design, build, and deploy scalable, resilient, secure cloud systems, RESTful APIs, microservices, and internal web applications.
• Lead event-driven workflows, rule evaluation, asynchronous processing, and integrations across claims services.
• Develop multi-channel communications for letters, email, SMS, push notifications, and fax, including compliant document generation and modernization of legacy notification paths.
• Integrate observability through metrics, tracing, structured logging, alerting, monitoring, rollback practices, and post-incident reviews.
• Mentor engineers and promote responsible AI-assisted development using coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years in technical leadership.
• Deep expertise in Java 17+ and Spring Boot 3.x.
• Experience with AI-assisted software development and helping teams adopt AI coding assistants with appropriate quality, security, and ownership standards.
• Expertise in microservices, distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, reliability engineering, performance optimization, and observability.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and web applications using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Strong communication, collaboration, mentoring, and technical influence skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with event-driven architecture, workflow orchestration, Kafka, Temporal, reactive programming, or high-throughput messaging.
• Background in SRE, platform engineering, distributed tracing, log aggregation, or alerting systems.
• Experience with system migrations, large-scale refactoring, legacy modernization, regulated industries, or insurance.
• Experience with document generation, communications platforms, multi-channel notifications, or applied generative AI.
