Export Control & Customs Management Specialist

What you will do

• Classify materials and screen customers, products, suppliers, and business partners against dual-use, embargo, and sanctions lists.
• Review and approve quotations, orders, and shipments for export control and foreign trade compliance, blocking critical transactions when required.
• Maintain origin, preference, and supplier declaration data and prepare Intrastat/Destatis declarations.
• Manage customs procedures, authorizations, and permits, including Authorized Exporter, inward processing, AEO-F, and temporary storage facilities.
• Apply for BAFA export licenses and support monitoring activities and audits by customs authorities.
• Advise internal departments, coordinate cross-site specialist meetings, and contribute to compliance projects and process improvements.

Requirements

• Completed vocational training or a degree in foreign trade, business law, business administration, logistics, or a related field.
• Several years of professional experience in export control, foreign trade, or customs; additional customs or foreign trade qualifications are desirable.
• Strong knowledge of foreign trade law, the EU Dual-Use Regulation, the Union Customs Code, preferential trade agreements, rules of origin, embargoes, and sanctions.
• Experience with BAFA licensing procedures, AEO status, inward processing, and Authorized Exporter status is desirable.
• Proficiency with ERP systems such as SAP and compliance software such as AEB.
• Fluent German and good written and spoken English are required. Strong analytical, problem-solving, regulatory interpretation, and authority-facing communication skills are also expected.
