TL;DR
Farm Manager (Agriculture): Supporting and leading field operations for a public-sector winter wheat breeding program, including field preparation, irrigation, field trials, harvest, data collection, and specialized equipment operation with an accent on cereal-crop production and research-grade execution. Focus on coordinating seasonal operations, maintaining agricultural machinery and irrigation systems, supervising field workers, and managing time-sensitive breeding trials across Texas research locations.

Location: Bushland, Texas, United States. The role is performed primarily outdoors, with travel to research farms, field sites, and meetings across Texas and the region.

Company

hirify.global is a public-sector agricultural research organization within the Texas A&M University System, focused on agriculture and life sciences.

What you will do

  • Plan and execute field operations for the winter wheat breeding program, including seedbed preparation, planting, cultivation, crop maintenance, and harvest.
  • Establish and manage field trials, yield tests, and small-plot breeding nurseries across the Panhandle and Rolling Plains.
  • Operate, calibrate, maintain, and repair tractors, plot combines, small-plot planters, irrigation systems, and other specialized equipment.
  • Manage irrigation scheduling, field observations, data collection, roguing, field notes, plot maps, and operational records.
  • Coordinate and supervise seasonal technicians and student workers during peak field operations.
  • Coordinate with wheat genetics, crop physiology, entomology, plant pathology, AgriLife farm managers, and USDA-ARS staff while ensuring compliance with safety and pesticide regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, crop science, agricultural sciences, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least three years of related experience and working knowledge of field-crop production, particularly small-grain and cereal crops.
  • Ability to operate, calibrate, maintain, and repair agricultural and specialized plot equipment.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems and scheduling, fertilizer and crop-protection chemical application, and farm safety procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to safely load, secure, haul, and unload trailers and equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in seasonal weather extremes, lift and carry up to 80 pounds, travel between sites, and work extended hours during planting and harvest.

Nice to have

  • Five or more years of irrigated or rain-fed field-crop production experience.
  • Experience in a public-sector or commercial plant-breeding program.
  • Experience with plot combines, small-plot planters, and GPS-enabled farm equipment.
  • Texas commercial or non-commercial pesticide-applicator license, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with modern office software.

Culture & Benefits

  • Health, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance with employer premium contributions.
  • 12–15 paid holidays, monthly sick leave, and monthly vacation leave.
  • Automatic enrollment in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas.
  • Professional development and training through Aspire, LinkedIn Learning, and internal programs.
  • Employment may involve H-1B sponsorship requirements; Texas A&M AgriLife will not pay the $100,000 H-1B fee if it is imposed, and Texas restrictions may affect new sponsorship applications.

Hiring process

  • Submit complete application materials, including a CV or resume and contact details for three references.
  • Employment is contingent on credential verification and completion of a criminal history investigation.
