Principal Engineer – Network & Communications

Location: Boise, Idaho or Pullman, Washington

Salary: $209,000–$270,000 annually

What you will do

• Lead the discovery, evaluation, and advancement of innovative technologies, applications, market opportunities, and growth initiatives.
• Analyze markets, technologies, competitors, customer feedback, applications, and industry trends to identify unmet needs and differentiated value propositions.
• Build and manage a pipeline of strategic opportunities based on customer needs, market dynamics, industry developments, and technology advancements.
• Translate market opportunities into product requirements, development initiatives, product strategies, technology roadmaps, business cases, and positioning strategies.
• Bridge customers with Marketing, Product Management, Sales and Customer Service, Engineering Services, R&D, and other stakeholders.
• Support customer adoption and market expansion while mentoring engineers, presenting technical content, contributing to intellectual property, and participating in industry forums and standards organizations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an applicable discipline.
• 15+ years of working knowledge and experience in electric power systems or equivalent transferable industry experience.
• Recognized leadership and expertise in Network and Communications, including mission-critical communications and telecommunications networks.
• Expertise in network design, architecture, implementation, and management, with knowledge of Ethernet, routing, switching, fiber-optic systems, wireless technologies, network cybersecurity, and time synchronization.
• Strong technical training, speaking, writing, documentation, customer service, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
• Willingness to travel as required by business needs; satisfactory background check and negative drug test results.

Nice to have

• Master’s or PhD in an engineering discipline.
• Experience authoring and presenting technical papers.
• US patents related to SEL’s mission and experience as a major inventor.
• Registered Professional Engineer status.
