TL;DR
Lead Production Technician (Fusion Energy): Leading hands-on teams building high-temperature superconducting magnets and electromechanical assemblies for fusion devices with an accent on manufacturing quality, scheduling, safety, and process improvement. Focus on developing and qualifying manufacturing techniques, troubleshooting production discrepancies, and coordinating mechanical, electrical, cryogenic, vacuum, and pneumatic assembly work.

Location: On-site in Somerville, Massachusetts, United States

Salary: $32–$52 per hour, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

  • Lead, hire, and train technicians and welders building electromechanical parts and assemblies.
  • Coordinate production schedules, resourcing, quality, cost, delivery, safety, and workplace cleanliness.
  • Perform production hardware builds using procedures, specifications, and test instructions.
  • Work with manufacturing engineers and technicians to develop and qualify new manufacturing techniques and processes.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing discrepancies and drive continuous improvement.
  • Use precision tools and support assembly and testing across mechanical, electrical, magnetic, cryogenic, pressure, vacuum, and pneumatic systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of formal leadership experience in manufacturing.
  • At least 6 years of technical experience across areas such as mechanical and electrical assembly, plumbing, vacuum systems, epoxy potting, injection molding, cryogenic systems, soldering, and wiring.
  • Strong communication, accountability, attention to detail, cleanliness, and ability to lead a team with clear direction.
  • Ability to work hands-on through projects from assembly to testing and to work independently when required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work around industrial hazards including high voltage, cryogenics, strong magnets, heat, cold, noise, fumes, and lead.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Lean manufacturing, 5S, and Six Sigma.
  • Experience with winding equipment.
