Senior Manager, Power Generation Engineering

Location: Remote - Colorado; regular site visits and up to 50% travel to power generation facilities are required.

What you will do

• Lead and develop engineers, engineers-in-training, and technical specialists across power generation disciplines.
• Oversee the design, analysis, condition assessment, lifecycle management, and reliability improvement of turbines, boilers, generators, transformers, and balance-of-plant equipment.
• Serve as technical owner for major capital projects, including engineering scope, contractor selection, construction oversight, and change control.
• Review engineering specifications, equipment data sheets, single-line diagrams, P&IDs, construction drawings, and design basis documentation.
• Drive plant availability and efficiency improvements through performance monitoring, thermodynamic modeling, predictive maintenance, and digital engineering tools.
• Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, Finance, Legal, regulators, ISOs, vendors, and EPC contractors.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related power engineering discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• At least 10 years of progressive experience in electric power generation or utility-scale energy systems, including at least 4 years in engineering management with direct reports.
• Experience managing capital projects with budgets exceeding $10 million and leading root cause analysis investigations.
• Hands-on knowledge of thermal generation cycles, rotating machinery, high-voltage systems up to 500kV, and generation protection and control systems.
• Working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards and proficiency with power systems modeling tools such as PSS/E, ETAP, SKM Power Tools, or PSCAD.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Engineering, MBA, or Energy Systems.
• NERC System Operator Certification.
• PMP certification or an equivalent project management credential.
• Experience with turbine OEMs including GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Pratt & Whitney, or Voith.
