Staff Software Engineer (Web Performance)

Location: Hybrid, with on-site work required at the Bellevue, Washington or Menlo Park, California offices

What you will do

• Define and drive Snowsight’s web performance strategy using Core Web Vitals, custom interaction metrics, and time-to-visually-complete measurements.
• Build and maintain real-user monitoring, synthetic monitoring, regression detection, bundle analysis, dashboards, and alerting infrastructure.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across loading, React rendering, data fetching, caching, virtualization, streaming, and runtime memory and CPU usage.
• Optimize build and delivery systems through bundle reduction, tree-shaking, chunk splitting, CDN caching, and resource prioritization.
• Establish performance budgets and CI/CD guardrails, and advise product teams on performance-aware architectures.
• Mentor engineers, review critical performance paths, and represent frontend performance in cross-organizational architecture decisions.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in web performance for large-scale web applications.
• Expert JavaScript, TypeScript, and React knowledge, including React rendering internals and performance troubleshooting in large codebases.
• Strong understanding of browser performance fundamentals, including the critical rendering path, layout, paint, compositing, scheduling, Web Workers, and browser profiling tools.
• Experience operating RUM and synthetic monitoring at scale, including custom metrics, percentile-based alerting, and regression detection.
• Deep knowledge of build tooling and delivery optimization, including Webpack, Vite, Bazel, code splitting, lazy loading, CDN behavior, caching headers, and resource hints.
• Ability to work on-site at the Bellevue, WA or Menlo Park, CA offices.

Nice to have

• Experience with server-side rendering, streaming SSR, or edge rendering.
• Familiarity with V8, Chromium, WebKit, browser APIs, or web performance standards.
• Contributions to open-source performance tooling or experience with Datadog and Grafana.
• Experience building data-intensive interfaces such as query editors, result grids, dashboards, or notebooks.
