Sr. Automation Engineer - Packaging

What you will do

• Own critical automation systems in a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment, including lifecycle maintenance, validation, documentation, configuration control, and software versioning.
• Manage change controls, deviations, CAPAs, incident investigations, and root cause analyses related to automation systems.
• Provide on-floor and remote technical support during production, shutdowns, technology transfers, and engineering runs.
• Implement software changes, update design documentation and SOPs, and recommend improvements aligned with current technology and regulatory standards.
• Champion Industry 4.0 initiatives involving data integration, advanced analytics, and digital twin technologies.
• Work with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and vendors on new product introductions, technology integration, and project delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Biotech Engineering, or a related life science engineering discipline, plus at least 5 years of experience in operations or manufacturing.
• Experience with automation design, installation, validation, lifecycle management, testing, and programming.
• Knowledge of GAMP software development lifecycle, ANSI/ISA-S88 and S95, 21 CFR Part 11, and Annex 11.
• Working knowledge of network architecture technologies, including TCP/IP and firewalls.
• Strong technical writing, communication, presentation, stakeholder-management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Work is based at the Dun Laoghaire, Ireland manufacturing site. Travel may be required for training and vendor visits.

Nice to have

• Experience in biopharmaceutical formulation, vial or syringe filling, inspection, or packaging facilities.
• Experience with Siemens or Rockwell PLC/HMI systems.
• Experience with iFix, InTouch, Zenon, process control systems, or Rockwell FTView SCADA.
• Experience with Fieldbus systems such as ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, ProfiNet, AS-I, or BACnet.
