Automation Engineer (Pharmaceutical Manufacturing)

Location: Waterford, Ireland; standard-day shift pattern; 18-month fixed-term contract

What you will do

• Provide day-to-day automation support for PFS, lyophilisation, filling, and packaging manufacturing operations.
• Troubleshoot Siemens S7/TIA Portal, Wonderware, iFix, and Zenon systems to reduce production downtime.
• Administer PI Historian, Ignition, Windows Server, virtual machine environments, and site OT network infrastructure.
• Lead automation capital projects from URS and design review through FAT/SAT, qualification, commissioning, and handover.
• Develop dashboards, reports, and analytics while supporting MES integration, IIoT, Industry 4.0, and Digital Lighthouse initiatives.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and global Automation teams to deliver compliant improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
• Significant hands-on automation engineering experience in a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical or life sciences manufacturing environment.
• Experience with Siemens S7/TIA Portal PLC programming and commissioning, plus Wonderware, iFix, or Zenon SCADA.
• Experience with OSIsoft PI Historian or Ignition, Windows Server administration, virtualised environments, and OT/IT networks.
• Knowledge of CSV, GAMP 5, GMP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, and EU Annex 11 requirements.
• Role based in Waterford, Ireland, with standard-day onsite manufacturing support.

Nice to have

• Experience with MES platforms such as Werum PAS-X or Rockwell PharmaSuite.
• Exposure to fill/finish, lyophilisation, packaging equipment, IIoT, or smart manufacturing.
• Knowledge of machine vision, robotics integration, or capital project management.
