Operations Support Engineer / Systems Administrator (AWX/Ansible)

Location: McLean, Virginia, United States; hybrid workplace with scheduled nightly patching activities outside normal business hours.

Salary: $85,000–$130,000 per year.

What you will do

• Execute and monitor scheduled patching jobs through AWX/Ansible across Linux and Windows environments.
• Validate system health, services, connectivity, application availability, and patching results.
• Troubleshoot package conflicts, repository issues, dependencies, service failures, and unexpected system behavior.
• Administer, harden, maintain, and troubleshoot servers, operating systems, storage, networking, authentication, certificates, and application dependencies.
• Support vulnerability remediation, system provisioning, upgrades, configuration changes, retirement, and technical refresh activities.
• Coordinate with engineering, platform, application, cybersecurity, and customer stakeholders while maintaining runbooks, reports, and system records.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience in systems administration, systems engineering, infrastructure operations, cloud operations, or a related field.
• Hands-on administration of Linux or Windows server environments, including operating system patching, package management, maintenance, and post-patch validation.
• Experience with AWX/Ansible or similar automation platforms, including troubleshooting playbooks, inventories, variables, dependencies, repositories, and execution results.
• Experience with DNF, YUM, RPM, Windows Server administration, Shell, Python, PowerShell, monitoring, logging, service management, and basic networking troubleshooting.
• Ability to support scheduled nightly patching outside normal business hours and participate in a rotating on-call schedule if assigned.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust; CompTIA Security+ must be held or obtained within 60 days, and an AWS certification within 90 days.

Nice to have

• Experience with RHEL, Amazon Linux, Windows Server, AWS, AWS GovCloud, AWS Systems Manager, Red Hat Satellite, WSUS, or repository mirrors.
• Experience with STIGs, system hardening, vulnerability remediation, federal compliance, and formal change, incident, and problem-management processes.
• Experience with EC2, EBS, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, enterprise monitoring, logging, ticketing, and configuration-management platforms.
• Experience developing automation for patching, validation, reporting, or operational support.
