TL;DR
Flight Software Engineer II (C/C++/Space Systems): Developing, integrating, and testing flight software for spacecraft computers and mission systems with an accent on low-level firmware, embedded RTOS, and GNC algorithm integration. Focus on designing device drivers, communications libraries, subsystem simulators, and command-sequencing capabilities for space missions.

Location: Onsite near Denver, Colorado or Long Beach, California

Base salary: $95,000–$140,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, integrate, and test flight software for spacecraft computers and processing units.
  • Integrate GNC algorithms with flight software and maintain the Command Telemetry Database for ground and on-orbit testing.
  • Collaborate with the ground C2 software team and contribute to spacecraft command scripting and sequencing.
  • Design and implement satellite subsystem simulators in HITL and SITL environments.
  • Develop reusable device drivers, hardware interfaces, and communications protocol libraries.
  • Participate in code reviews and flight software architecture discussions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience with low-level firmware architecture, design, and development.
  • Experience with device drivers, safety-critical systems, and embedded RTOS such as RTLinux or Azure RTOS.
  • Familiarity with Ethernet, SPI, I2C, CAN, RS422, RS485, UDP, and TCP/IP.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and at least one of Rust, Zig, or Python.
  • Ability to maintain or obtain TS/SCI clearance and meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or computer science field.
  • 2–4 years of experience developing or producing flight software for space applications.
  • Experience with version control, continuous integration, continuous delivery, embedded Linux, and embedded systems development tools.
  • Experience with microcontrollers, application processors, oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, robotics, automation, motor control, or sensor fusion.
