TL;DR
AI Solution Architect (FEMA ITSA) (AI, data architecture, and responsible AI): Evaluating federal IT systems for AI, automation, and advanced analytics readiness with an accent on data quality, governance, risk management, and API integration. Focus on identifying high-value use cases, designing data and integration recommendations, and assessing transparency, privacy, security, bias, and human oversight.

Location: United States; primarily from company facilities or remotely, with periodic travel to government facilities in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and northern Virginia

Salary: $130,000–$180,000 per year

What you will do

  • Evaluate federal enterprise IT systems and application portfolios for AI, machine learning, robotic process automation, and advanced analytics readiness.
  • Identify and prioritize responsible AI and automation use cases that improve service delivery, reduce manual processing, and support fraud prevention.
  • Assess data quality, completeness, lineage, accessibility, labeling, standards, and governance for analytics and AI.
  • Define AI governance, oversight, and risk considerations covering transparency, bias, privacy, security, and human oversight.
  • Analyze APIs, data exchanges, upstream and downstream dependencies, and data mesh integration patterns.
  • Contribute AI and automation recommendations to modernization roadmaps and follow-on implementation work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, engineering, mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 15 or more years of progressive IT experience, including substantial experience architecting data, analytics, machine learning, or AI solutions.
  • Experience assessing enterprise data readiness and designing data platforms for analytics and AI.
  • Hands-on familiarity with Azure AI, Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, SageMaker, Google Vertex AI, and intelligent automation tools.
  • Knowledge of responsible AI and AI risk management frameworks, including the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a favorably adjudicated Public Trust suitability determination.

Nice to have

  • Experience with federal AI policy and governance, OMB AI guidance, AI use case inventories, or agency AI governance boards.
  • Experience applying AI and analytics to fraud detection, case processing, grants processing, or other mission operations.
  • Relevant Azure, AWS, Google, or CDMP certifications.
  • Experience supporting DHS or other federal civilian agencies.
