Tech Engineer Lead (Java)

Location: Columbus, OH; office-based

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership for the design, development, implementation, modernization, and support of enterprise applications.
• Lead the development of scalable full-stack applications, microservices, RESTful APIs, event-driven services, and distributed applications.
• Define technical solutions aligned with enterprise architecture, security, engineering standards, performance, resiliency, and regulatory requirements.
• Review architecture, technical designs, source code, and implementation approaches while establishing reusable engineering practices.
• Mentor engineers, coordinate dependencies across teams, and collaborate with architects, product owners, business analysts, DevOps, and QA.
• Drive automated testing, CI/CD, DevOps, infrastructure automation, observability, and resolution of complex production issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 5 years of software engineering and enterprise application development experience, including at least 3 years of technical leadership.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, React, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, RESTful APIs, and microservices.
• Knowledge of object-oriented programming, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, relational databases, SQL, Git, and automated testing.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and balancing hands-on engineering with technical leadership and mentoring.
• Workplace: office-based in Columbus, Ohio.

Nice to have

• Cloud-native and distributed application experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, RabbitMQ, IBM MQ, CI/CD platforms, Spring Cloud, Spring Security, OAuth2, JWT, and API gateways.
• Experience with NoSQL, caching, application performance tuning, disaster recovery, monitoring, and observability tools.
• Background in banking, insurance, financial services, or other highly regulated enterprise environments.
• Experience with legacy application modernization, mainframe migration, and AI-assisted development tools.
