TL;DR
Field Service Engineer (Medical Devices): Setting up, maintaining, repairing, and optimizing Leica Biosystems equipment for customer demonstrations, training sessions, workflow simulations, and internal evaluations with an accent on electromechanical systems, pathology instruments, software, and network-connected components. Focus on diagnosing complex technical issues, ensuring demo readiness and quality compliance, and supporting customers and commercial teams across field and workshop environments.

Location: Nussloch, Germany; regular presence at the European Demonstration Centre is expected. Field service work and travel to customer sites, the Newcastle demo laboratory, training activities, and potentially North America are required.

What you will do

  • Set up, operate, maintain, and optimize Leica Biosystems systems for customer demonstrations, training, workflow simulations, and internal evaluations.
  • Prepare, inspect, verify, and troubleshoot demonstration, loan, and field-returned equipment.
  • Manage equipment configuration, calibration, verification, upgrades, and readiness checks, including accessories and software.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across electromechanical and electronic systems, optics, software, and network-connected components.
  • Perform maintenance, repairs, modifications, and quality verification according to company standards and applicable requirements.
  • Collaborate with workshop, sales, applications, product specialist, service, digital pathology, and training teams.

Requirements

  • Biomedical or engineering experience with an associate degree, or equivalent technical work experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electromechanical and electronic systems, optics, platforms, and software.
  • Knowledge of PC hardware, networking principles, firmware updates, software installation, and system connectivity.
  • Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences and collaborate across international teams.
  • Fluent English and German are required for professional customer communication.
  • Ability to work safely in a workshop and technical service environment, including handling and moving equipment.

Nice to have

  • Experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining pathology instruments or comparable scientific and clinical equipment.
  • Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience working under ISO, FDA, or similar quality requirements.
  • Customer-centric mindset and interest in continuous improvement and service efficiency.
