Senior Java Spring Developer

Location: Fully remote, but candidates must live in Portugal or be legally qualified to live and work there. Listed locations: Coimbra and Lisbon.

Salary: €35,310–€54,400 gross per year

What you will do

• Develop and maintain backend services and digital products using Java and the Spring ecosystem.
• Design REST and gRPC services using reactive patterns and distributed-systems practices.
• Investigate complex technical issues involving JVM internals, memory management, JIT compilation, and system performance.
• Build and maintain infrastructure using Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and GitLab CI pipelines.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams on client projects and contribute to problem-solving, technical management, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience with Java.
• Deep expertise in Spring Boot, REST/gRPC, reactive patterns, and JVM internals.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and GitLab CI.
• Experience with distributed systems and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Jaeger.
• Strong ability to write well-designed, testable, and efficient code using sound software development practices.
• Fluent spoken and written English, plus legal eligibility to live and work in Portugal.

Nice to have

• Professional working knowledge of C++.
• Experience using agentic AI development tools such as Cursor IDE and GitHub Copilot.
