Senior Java Developer – Remote from Portugal

Location: Remote from Portugal. Candidates must already have the legal right to work in the European Union.

What you will do

• Develop, test, and maintain high-quality Java applications that meet functional and performance requirements.
• Design solutions with cross-functional teams and troubleshoot complex technical issues.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Document technical solutions and contribute to software development best practices.
• Ensure code security, reliability, scalability, and maintainability in a remote environment.
• Keep current with Java technologies and contribute to technical assessments during the hiring process.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of Java development experience, preferably with Java 21.
• Strong ability to design testable, efficient, and scalable code.
• Hands-on experience with Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Experience with AWS services such as SQS, SNS, and DynamoDB, plus SOAP and REST protocols.
• Knowledge of high-concurrency, high-availability, and transactional platforms, design patterns, software lifecycle management, and agile methodologies.
• Fluent English in spoken and written communication; existing EU work authorization is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud platforms.
• Knowledge of GraphQL, WunderGraph Cosmo, Datadog, or similar monitoring tools.
• Exposure to microservices architecture, DevOps practices, or relevant Java and software development certifications.
