Senior Software Engineer / Future Technical Lead (AI)

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom (hybrid); hybrid working is provided from the Newcastle office.

What you will do

• Lead and deliver client software projects using .NET, Azure, and Python.
• Translate complex business and engineering challenges into technical solutions and specifications.
• Own software security and quality processes, including collaboration with external security specialists.
• Contribute to architecture, design decisions, technical strategy, and enterprise-grade security practices.
• Mentor a graduate developer and help build the software engineering function.
• Progress toward leading the software team, supporting recruitment, technical direction, and delivery management.

Requirements

• Approximately 5 or more years of software engineering experience.
• Strong commercial experience with C#, .NET, Microsoft Azure, and Python.
• Consultancy or client-facing experience, including stakeholder communication and requirements analysis.
• Practical knowledge of software security and the ability to take ownership of security processes.
• Demonstrated initiative, fast learning, and delivery of measurable outcomes.
• Eligibility for SC Security Clearance is required.

Nice to have

• Degree or background in engineering, mathematics, or physics.
• Experience with bids, proposals, or pre-sales activities.
• Azure or Solution Architect certifications.
• Experience in engineering, manufacturing, or technical software environments.
