Senior Specialist, Mechanical Engineer (Defense)

Location: Palm Bay, Florida, United States; onsite role. The position follows a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. Security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and qualify complex mechanical hardware, precision mechanisms, and electro-mechanical systems.
• Support the full product lifecycle, including requirements definition, concept generation, material selection, trade studies, optimization, documentation, and testing.
• Create technical data package components such as part and assembly drawings.
• Prototype, integrate, test, and evaluate mechanical components and subsystems.
• Develop mechanical test plans and procedures and participate in PDRs, CDRs, peer reviews, and change review meetings.
• Lead or coordinate designers, technicians, and operators while supporting field testing and demonstrations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 6 years of relevant experience, or a graduate degree and at least 4 years of related experience.
• In lieu of a degree, at least 10 years of relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience with 3D modeling and mechanical hardware design and development.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to work in a laboratory environment and directly handle hardware.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance; security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.

Nice to have

• Experience designing precision mechanisms, mechatronic systems, or packaging modules and electronics.
• Proficiency with CAD tools such as Creo and knowledge of ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Experience with actuators, custom gear trains, electro-optical systems, materials testing, or additive manufacturing.
• Experience with design for manufacturability and assembly, machined parts, plastic parts, or sheet metal parts.
• Understanding of thermal and structural loading, size-weight-power optimization, and EVMS cost and schedule practices.
