Location: Somerville, Massachusetts, United States; onsite hardware engineering role.

What you will do

  • Architect, design, prototype, and build hardware systems and subsystems for next-generation 3D printers.
  • Create innovative mechanical solutions that improve printer performance, reliability, manufacturability, and user experience.
  • Prototype mechanisms and systems, test materials, and research challenging 3D printing problems.
  • Lead technical work within a multidisciplinary group of mechanical, systems, and electrical engineers.
  • Review designs and guide the work of junior engineers.
  • Communicate with vendors and suppliers while supporting the full product development cycle.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of industry experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Strong portfolio or samples of previous work demonstrating experience with electromechanical systems.
  • Experience with thermal systems, optical systems, sensor design, controllers, structures, and algorithms.
  • Knowledge of part design, material selection, manufacturing techniques, and high-volume product manufacturing methods.
  • Hands-on ability to prototype designs, work across disciplines, and solve engineering problems.
  • Portfolio or work samples must be submitted with the application.

Nice to have

  • Experience with polymers and polymer chemistry.
  • Electronics and circuit design knowledge.
  • PLM or document control systems experience.
  • Programming skills in Python.
  • Industrial design experience.
