TL;DR
Staff Engineer, Manufacturing Process Integration (MPI) (HAMR): Scaling wafer processes and recording-head products from late development into volume production with an accent on manufacturability, throughput, device performance, and HAMR technology. Focus on designing experiments, troubleshooting manufacturing and product issues, integrating process disciplines, and developing automation with Python, Power Automate, machine learning, and data science.

Location: Normandale campus, United States, serving Bloomington and Edina; on-site work required. Occasional travel to international manufacturing sites, up to 10%.

Salary: $109,470–$159,542 base salary annually.

What you will do

  • Scale new wafer processes and reader/writer technologies, including Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR), into volume production.
  • Improve process manufacturability, throughput, and recording-head device performance.
  • Design experiments, analyze results, and present documented technical conclusions to audiences from technicians to directors.
  • Troubleshoot material, manufacturing-process, and product-design issues and provide tactical direction on critical problems.
  • Lead projects or own process modules across a complex build route while collaborating with wafer operations, process development, design, and product engineering.
  • Support automation and training using Microsoft Power Automate, Python, and OCAPs while developing skills in machine learning, generative AI, and data science.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field with 8+ years of experience, or a master’s degree with 6+ years, or a PhD with 3+ years.
  • Experience applying design of experiments and statistical process control techniques.
  • Ability to work in a clean-room environment and provide occasional on-call support for off-shift issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex technical information.
  • Ability to work on site at the Normandale campus in the United States.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to international manufacturing sites.

Nice to have

  • Semiconductor or wafer fabrication and data storage product development experience.
  • Experience with yield, failure analysis, CAD, process integration, or generalist process engineering.
  • Materials science background.
  • Experience applying AI and machine learning.
