Commissions Accountanting Lead

Location: Remote within the United States

Base pay: $111,300–$178,100 annually in Colorado, $111,300–$196,700 annually in Washington, $111,300–$215,400 annually in California, and $134,600–$215,400 annually in NYC. The role is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Account for commission accruals, expenses, capitalization, and amortization under ASC 606 across products and contract types.
• Review complex sales and partner agreements, determine accounting treatment, and classify costs under GAAP.
• Design and implement automated workflows and AI-enabled tools for agreement review, anomaly detection, reconciliation, and data-quality monitoring.
• Prepare account reconciliations, investigate variances and unusual trends, and maintain supporting schedules.
• Design, execute, and document SOX-compliant controls and prepare journal entries, audit support, technical memos, and financial reporting documentation.
• Partner with Legal, Financial Operations, Revenue Operations, Partner Operations, Global Analytics, and IT on deal structures and system improvements.

Requirements

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including commission accounting and/or ASC 606 cost capitalization.
• Working knowledge of ASC 606, incremental costs of obtaining a contract, and GAAP cost classification.
• Experience in a SaaS or subscription-based business and with complex, non-standard agreements.
• Hands-on experience designing and building automation and improving inefficient processes.
• Demonstrated proficiency with AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Copilot for accounting analysis, agreement review, or process automation.
• Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or Workday, advanced Excel skills, and the ability to explain technical accounting conclusions to non-accounting partners.
