AI Engineer (Generative AI)

Location: Hybrid role based in Atlanta, Georgia, or the Washington, DC / Maryland / Virginia area; U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency is required.

Salary: $155,000 annually

What you will do

• Build and enhance production generative AI applications, web-based AI solutions, RAG systems, knowledge assistants, chatbots, and agentic workflows.
• Develop AI applications with Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, Foundry Agent Service, Python, web frameworks, containers, and Azure services.
• Implement LLM workflows using tools, function calling, structured outputs, guardrails, and human review.
• Integrate AI applications with REST APIs, enterprise data sources, databases, cloud services, and MCP-based tools.
• Test, evaluate, trace, and monitor AI applications to improve quality, reliability, latency, and cost.
• Collaborate with software, AI, data, cloud, architecture, and DevSecOps engineers to deliver maintainable production applications.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of technical experience in software engineering, web application development, data engineering, data science, machine learning, or a related discipline.
• At least 1 year of hands-on experience building generative AI or agentic AI solutions, including LLM APIs, prompt engineering, tool calling, structured outputs, RAG, or agents.
• Experience with Python, APIs, backend services, data pipelines, web frameworks, REST, JSON, authentication, and external service integrations.
• Experience deploying or integrating applications with Microsoft Azure, AWS, or another major cloud platform.
• Knowledge of LLM fundamentals, including tokens, context windows, prompts, model parameters, embeddings, retrieval, and response evaluation.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or suitability determination and must be a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident. A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Docker, Azure Container Apps, Azure App Service, CI/CD, automated testing, and cloud-based AI deployment.
• Experience with MCP integrations, agent tool calling, multi-agent systems, LLM evaluation, tracing, monitoring, and observability.
• Exposure to fine-tuning, hosting, or serving open-source LLMs and using model-serving or agent frameworks such as LangGraph or PydanticAI.
• Experience in government, healthcare, or other regulated environments, plus knowledge of AI governance and responsible AI practices.
