Senior Litigation Specialist General Liability

Location: Morristown, New Jersey, United States

Annual base salary: $94,400–$155,800, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards and a sign-on bonus.

What you will do

• Handle assigned severe and complex specialty liability bodily injury and property damage claims through investigation, evaluation, reserving, negotiation, and resolution.
• Perform coverage analysis, assess liability and damages, review medical and damage records, and maintain complete claim files.
• Coordinate internal and external resources, including counsel, investigators, medical providers, technical experts, subrogation, and risk control specialists.
• Manage litigated claims by selecting and directing counsel, developing litigation strategies, overseeing discovery and legal expenses, and tracking resolution progress.
• Negotiate claim dispositions with insureds, claimants, and legal representatives while applying alternative resolution methods and delegated authority.
• Provide technical consultation, training resources, roundtable participation, and knowledge sharing to improve claim outcomes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree preferred; a high school diploma or GED is required.
• At least 3 years of liability claim handling experience and/or comparable litigation claim experience.
• Extensive claim or legal experience with advanced knowledge of coverage, contract interpretation, liability and damages analysis, litigation, relevant case law, and statutory law.
• Advanced analytical thinking, decision-making, communication, negotiation, investigation, value determination, settlement, and legal knowledge skills.
• Ability to make independent decisions on most assigned cases and manage severe, complex claims.
• Insurance license(s) may be required and generally must be obtained within three months of starting.
