Senior QA Automation Test Engineer (Java)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; four days per week in the office.

Base salary: $121,550–$157,300 per year, plus potential incentive compensation and equity programs.

What you will do

• Define QA strategy, quality standards, release confidence criteria, coverage expectations, and escaped-defect targets across teams.
• Design and build automated UI, API, and integration test frameworks using Java and related testing tools.
• Validate end-to-end clearing workflows covering trade processing, margin, settlement, and reconciliation.
• Establish reproducible test data and environment strategies while ensuring data accuracy across distributed systems.
• Embed automated testing into delivery pipelines and document test strategy and coverage decisions.
• Mentor engineers and partner with development teams to improve testability before implementation.

Requirements

• 7+ years of quality assurance experience with a strong automation focus.
• Leadership and mentorship experience, with QA ownership across the full application lifecycle.
• Strong Java skills and experience architecting and extending test frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with Cucumber, Selenium, or Playwright, plus REST API testing with RestAssured, Postman, or an equivalent.
• Relational database knowledge and ability to write queries for cross-system data validation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience; must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Nice to have

• AI-powered testing tools, FIX protocol, Kafka, or experience with clearing, trading, or financial systems.
• Python, container runtimes, cloud platforms, performance and resiliency testing, or business continuity and disaster recovery testing.
