Legal Counsel (Private Credit)

Location: United Kingdom, with a few days in London each month. Remote work is available for candidates based outside London. The role can be full-time or four days per week.

High-growth private credit fund providing flexible, bespoke credit solutions to mid-market businesses across the UK, Europe, and the US.

What you will do

• Build and develop the in-house legal function, processes, and governance framework.
• Lead the legal aspects of lending and investment transactions from inception to completion.
• Draft, review, and negotiate loan agreements, facility agreements, NDAs, and commercial contracts.
• Work with external counsel and internal stakeholders to manage transactions and legal matters.
• Provide commercially focused advice to senior stakeholders on legal and regulatory risks.
• Lead compliance activities and oversee MLRO responsibilities, including AML, KYC, and sanctions frameworks.

Requirements

• England and Wales qualified lawyer with 5+ years of post-qualification experience.
• Strong generalist legal background with excellent drafting and negotiation skills, particularly in loan documentation.
• Significant transactional experience and the ability to lead documentation and manage transactions from start to finish.
• Knowledge of FCA regulations, AML, and KYC.
• Commercial, pragmatic, proactive, and entrepreneurial approach with confidence advising senior stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience in an FCA-regulated environment, particularly banking, private credit, or lending.
• Ambition to build and develop a legal function.
