Application Support Engineer (Linux/Unix)

Location: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia; hybrid working arrangement with at least two days per week in the office

What you will do

• Operate and support critical production applications and data-processing services in Linux/Unix environments.
• Monitor application health, data flows, batch processing, alerts, capacity, and service availability.
• Investigate incidents, alerts, performance issues, connectivity problems, and end-to-end processing failures.
• Manage operational tickets through investigation, resolution, escalation, documentation, and closure.
• Execute deployments, configuration changes, recovery, backup, restoration, scheduling, and reprocessing procedures.
• Create runbooks and knowledge-base documentation while improving automation, monitoring coverage, and production reliability.

Requirements

• Degree, diploma, or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
• Three or more years of experience in application support, technical operations, production support, trading technology, data processing, network operations, or a related environment.
• Solid Linux/Unix knowledge, including command-line tools, filesystem and process management, log analysis, and Bash or shell scripting.
• Ability to troubleshoot across operating system, process, storage, device, and network layers and analyse information from multiple sources.
• Experience with monitoring, ticketing, incident-management, and change-management processes, plus clear technical communication skills.
• Availability for rostered weekend on-call support and occasional planned out-of-hours production work.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting financial-market, trade-surveillance, market-data, or other regulated production applications.
• Experience with Git or Bitbucket deployment workflows and tools such as Zabbix, Datadog, Splunk, or Jira.
• Experience with Python, Perl, advanced Bash/shell scripting, file-based or batch-processing pipelines.
• Familiarity with AWS-hosted applications, containers, hybrid cloud, on-premises environments, or ITIL practices.
• Relevant ITIL, Linux, AWS, networking, or related technical certifications.
