Senior Combustion Devices Engineer II / Principal Combustion Devices Engineer (Rocket Propulsion)

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; onsite at hirify.global's headquarters. Candidates seeking to work in U.S. offices must meet applicable ITAR eligibility requirements, such as being a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible to obtain the required authorization.

Base salary: $132,000–$270,000 USD annually. Total compensation including equity: $164,500–$319,725 USD annually.

What you will do

• Design combustion devices such as preburners, main injectors, thrust chamber assemblies, and vacuum nozzles for the Archimedes engine.
• Perform design analysis and trade studies to meet program targets.
• Define component requirements, test plans, and flight qualification plans.
• Collaborate with turbomachinery, engine systems, manufacturing, and build engineering teams.
• Support testing and launch operations by interpreting data and developing solutions for high-cadence tests, flights, and re-flights.
• Design cost-effective, manufacturable components for an iterative reusable rocket program.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
• For Senior level: 8+ years of combustion device design experience.
• For Principal level: 12+ years of combustion device design experience.
• In-depth knowledge of combustion and fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and structural mechanics.
• Fundamental understanding of design principles and manufacturing methods.
• U.S. office roles require eligibility under applicable ITAR and U.S. government export regulations.

Nice to have

• Master's degree or PhD.
• Advanced proficiency in NX, ANSYS Mechanical, StarCCM, MATLAB, or GD&T.
• Experience with TDK, ROCCID, PERCORP, CEA, or ROCETS.
• Reacting-flow CFD and high-speed data or video analysis experience.
• Experience designing reusable, propulsively landing rocket engines.
• Experience in an iterative and scrappy development environment.
