TL;DR
Senior Hardware Design Engineer – Low Voltage Electric Power (Automotive): Designing and delivering low-voltage electrical hardware for vehicle electric power components, including power distribution units, battery management systems, converters, inverters, schematics, and PCB layouts with an accent on reliability, manufacturability, validation, and production execution. Focus on leading embedded and IC architectures, performing electrical robustness and EMC analysis, resolving integration issues, and driving designs through supplier or in-house production.

Location: Warren, Michigan, United States. This is an onsite position. The role is not eligible for relocation benefits; any relocation costs are the selected candidate’s responsibility.

What you will do

  • Design and execute low-voltage electric power hardware for power distribution units, battery management systems, converters, inverters, and related vehicle components.
  • Lead embedded module architectures, new IC development, electrical schematics, PCB layouts, and hardware design deliverables.
  • Collaborate with software, diagnostics, mechanical, manufacturing, safety, validation, supplier, and vehicle integration teams.
  • Perform worst-case, power distribution, component compatibility, environmental, EMC, Weibull, and other robustness analyses.
  • Develop and optimize verification, validation, simulation, end-of-line testing, and production quality processes.
  • Lead peer reviews, root-cause analysis, issue resolution, cost reduction, engineering changes, and continuous improvement through production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience designing automotive hardware electronics.
  • Experience with digital and analog hardware interfaces, schematics, PCB layouts, and supporting documentation.
  • In-depth knowledge of low-voltage power distribution, eFuses, FETs, thermal management, lithium-ion batteries, and DC/DC converters.
  • Knowledge of EMC, environmental durability, electrical robustness, signal integrity, noise mitigation, hardware and embedded software verification, and validation.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Mentor Graphics, Mathcad, PSpice, and Saber, plus communication protocols including Ethernet, SPI, I2C, IsoSPI, UART, PCIe, SerDes, AVB, and CAN.

Nice to have

  • Experience with compute, connectivity, body, and low-voltage distribution systems, electronic component manufacturing, assembly, and PCB manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of RTOS concepts, CG2999, CPU utilization, quality data analytics, and Service/TAC.
  • Experience with CarSim, PreScan, Simulink, Synopsys/ANSYS, Sherlock, CFD, FEA, SPICE, MathCAD, and MIL/SIL/HIL/VIL testing.
