Principal Electrical Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Preferred on-site in Wixom, Michigan; Grand Blanc, Michigan is also listed. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Approximately 10% travel is required.

What you will do

• Define and oversee electrical architectures, including power systems, signal integrity, and component selection.
• Lead analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit design using tools such as Altium, OrCAD, or Cadence.
• Guide prototyping, validation, DV/PV testing, and coordination with external testing partners.
• Define electrical requirements with product management, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, and software teams.
• Lead design reviews, regulatory compliance activities, failure analysis, corrective actions, and reliability improvements.
• Mentor engineers and technicians, improve design and testing processes, evaluate emerging technologies, and contribute to intellectual property.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 10+ years of relevant experience developing and launching commercially available products.
• Strong system-level design and compliance expertise.
• Experience with schematic creation, component selection, board-level circuit design, and hardware simulation analysis.
• Familiarity with UL, CE, FCC, and RoHS standards.
• Ability to prepare reports and correspondence for customers and internal stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
• Experience with WCCA, DFMEA, DVP, and test plans.
• Automotive experience involving braking, lighting, or towing systems.
• Working knowledge of PCB layout and schematic capture tools, including Altium or Mentor Graphics.
