Associate Scientist, Research & Development (NGS)

Location: La Jolla, California, United States. Full-time onsite laboratory schedule, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with occasional nights, weekends, and approximately 5% travel.

What you will do

• Conduct bench-level laboratory experiments for assigned products and technologies.
• Support assay verification and validation studies for new product versions.
• Generate, record, analyze, and interpret experimental data.
• Operate scientific instruments and report equipment or performance issues.
• Prepare laboratory reports and technical documentation describing methods and results.
• Collaborate with scientists, supervisors, and project teams to advance research concepts through the product development pipeline.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, chemical science, physical science, biological science, or a related field.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate laboratory documentation skills.
• Ability to work in a BSL-2 laboratory and comply with biosafety, PPE, quality, and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to perform repetitive laboratory movements, fine-motor tasks, reaching, and lifting up to 20 pounds.
• Current authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship is required.

Nice to have

• At least one year of related laboratory, research, or scientific experience.
• Scientific or laboratory internship experience.
• Experience with bench experiments in a research and development environment.
• Familiarity with assay verification and validation activities.
• Exposure to molecular diagnostics, next-generation sequencing, or related life sciences technologies.
