What you will do

• Perform molecular and serological assays for pertussis and diphtheria diagnosis, including real-time PCR, DNA sequencing, ELISAs, Luminex assays, and western blots.
• Support molecular subtyping, genome-based typing, genomic and proteomic analysis of Bordetella and Corynebacterium species.
• Develop and validate diagnostic assays, molecular typing systems, and advanced molecular detection techniques.
• Conduct laboratory experiments and provide testing support during disease outbreaks, special requests, surveillance activities, and research programs.
• Collaborate with CDC epidemiologists, coordinators, scientists, and domestic and international laboratory programs.
• Manage specimens, inventory, proficiency-testing panels, laboratory equipment, protocols, and compliance activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Biology, Microbiology, or a closely related field, with compatible work experience.
• Must be a United States citizen, permanent resident, or authorized to work in the United States.
• Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
• Ability to follow laboratory protocols and perform microbiological, serological, antibiotic resistance, and molecular biology procedures.
• Ability to work independently, collaborate with laboratory scientists, and respond flexibly to laboratory needs.
• Ability to comply with laboratory safety procedures, the Quality Management System, CLIA regulations, and applicable federal requirements.

Nice to have

• Bioinformatics experience across wet- and dry-lab work.
• Whole genome sequencing experience.
• Experience writing scientific papers.
• Knowledge of CDC laboratory policy, quality, and regulatory requirements.
