Senior CAD Engineer (Power Transmission & Distribution)

What you will do

• Produce, check, and approve engineering drawings for 33–400kV overhead line and underground cable schemes, including route maps, profiles, clearances, structures, foundations, cable sections, schematics, and setting-out drawings.
• Convert survey data and PLS-CADD model outputs into production-quality drawings and prepare as-built documentation from site mark-ups and RFI outcomes.
• Manage drawing registers, document numbering, revisions, review comments, transmittals, and uploads to Oracle, ProjectWise, or equivalent systems.
• Work with OHL design engineers and multidisciplinary teams to translate engineering requirements into accurate client-standard deliverables.
• Support GIS data preparation and route corridor mapping using ArcGIS or equivalent tools.
• Perform drawing quality checks and mentor junior technicians in presentation drawing and client-facing material production.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of CAD experience in an engineering environment, including T&D or power infrastructure drawing production.
• Advanced AutoCAD proficiency; experience with Civil 3D and MicroStation is desirable.
• Ability to lead and manage work packages with minimal supervision and interpret engineering calculations and survey data.
• Experience with formal document control systems and T&D drawing conventions.
• Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to work in a multidisciplinary design team.
• Experience mentoring and training junior technicians.

Nice to have

• Experience producing drawings to SSE, SPEN, NGED, or National Grid CAD standards.
• Experience with 3D modelling, ArcGIS, QGIS, Civil 3D, or schemes at 132kV and above.
• Experience with EPC or framework contracts in a DNO/TNO environment.
• HNC, HND, or degree in engineering, technical drawing, or a related discipline.
• Interest in new technologies, including AI.
