TL;DR
Senior Satellite Flight Software Engineer (Satellite Communications): Architecting and developing scalable flight software for TeraWave’s 5,408-satellite LEO and MEO constellation with an accent on core services, command and data handling, telemetry, fault management, and secure OTA updates. Focus on designing resilient real-time embedded systems, integrating software across spacecraft subsystems, and validating mission-critical software through SIL, HIL, and other representative test environments.

Location: Greater Seattle Area, United States. Employment requires U.S. citizenship or nationality, permanent residency, refugee status, or asylum status.

Base pay for Washington applicants: $197,529.00–$276,539.55 annually. Other site ranges may differ.

hirify.global develops reusable space vehicles and systems and is building TeraWave, a satellite communications network for high-throughput global connectivity.

What you will do

  • Architect, develop, and integrate core flight software for a next-generation satellite platform.
  • Define reusable, platform-independent software frameworks, services, and design patterns for multiple spacecraft configurations.
  • Develop command and data handling, telemetry, health monitoring, and fault-management components.
  • Partner with systems, avionics, GNC, communications, power, propulsion, thermal, payload, and autonomy teams on subsystem integration.
  • Lead design reviews, code reviews, technical trade studies, and software architecture standards.
  • Build CI/CD infrastructure, automated test frameworks, debugging tools, and secure OTA update capabilities with validation, authentication, rollback, and version control.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of embedded software experience for spacecraft or other mission-critical real-time systems.
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Python.
  • Experience with RTOS-based development using Embedded Linux, VxWorks, or QNX.
  • Experience architecting complex flight software or mission-critical embedded systems and applying software lifecycle, CI/CD, verification, validation, and testing practices.
  • Must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience with cFS, F Prime, or similar flight software frameworks.
  • Experience with satellite constellations, distributed space systems, spacecraft networking, or optical inter-satellite links.
  • Knowledge of satellite communications, high-throughput data handling, radiation-hardened computing, and fault-tolerant architectures.
  • Experience with SIL, HIL, integrated spacecraft testing, static analysis, and automated verification frameworks.
