Director, Network Automation & Tooling (AI)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, or Kansas City, Missouri, United States. The role follows a four-day in-office work model.

Salary: $195,500–$278,300 base salary annually, plus possible incentive compensation and long-term equity participation.

What you will do

• Lead and grow multidisciplinary teams across network, security, telemetry, agent tooling, and automation reliability.
• Own the strategy and architecture for a Docker/Kubernetes-based infrastructure automation platform powered by AI agents.
• Build network configuration, compliance, drift detection, software upgrade, rollback, and synthetic testing automation.
• Direct telemetry collection from SNMP, gNMI, syslog, and API-based sources into Prometheus and Grafana.
• Advance machine learning and agentic analysis for anomaly detection, trend forecasting, capacity planning, and eventual auto-remediation.
• Partner with executive, Operations, Engineering, Security, and Network Engineering stakeholders on strategy, governance, investment, and risk.

Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
• At least 12 years of progressive infrastructure, automation, or DevOps engineering experience, including at least 5 years leading people and engineering or automation teams.
• Deep experience with cloud-native infrastructure or Docker and Kubernetes at scale, with working fluency in the other area.
• Hands-on experience with Python, API-driven integrations, Ansible or equivalent network automation, configuration compliance, drift detection, and automated upgrade workflows.
• Direct production experience with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot, including agent framework design and safety guardrails.
• Working knowledge of Prometheus, Grafana, SNMP, gNMI, syslog, API polling, CI/CD, GitOps, and network, security, and telemetry engineering.

• Experience creating and shipping a new technical capability ahead of established industry patterns.
• Experience securing executive sponsorship, funding, and organizational support for strategic automation initiatives.
