Backend Engineer (Sports Betting)

Location: Belgium Hub Liège; hybrid working model with the possibility to work remotely up to 50% of working time.

What you will do

• Design, build, release, monitor, and continuously improve backend solutions for the Sports Betting area.
• Own backend services across their full lifecycle, from initial design through production operation.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Frontend Engineers, and other stakeholders in small, autonomous product engineering teams.
• Apply backend engineering practices that support reliability, scalability, customer trust, compliance, and time-to-market.
• Improve systems, engineering practices, tooling, and ways of working.

Requirements

• Professional experience as a Backend Engineer in product-oriented environments, ideally at scale or in regulated contexts.
• Strong backend fundamentals, including API design, data modeling, testing, performance, resilience, and operability.
• Experience with a statically typed language and framework such as C#/.NET, Java, Kotlin, or Go, including event-driven architectures.
• Experience with relational databases, SQL, and ORMs.
• Ability to own solutions end-to-end and collaborate effectively in small, cross-functional teams.
• Strong ownership, pragmatism, product focus, and commitment to continuous learning.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with .NET and C#, RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka, or NServiceBus.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, containerization, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD or Octopus Deploy.
• Experience with real-time or high-concurrency systems, such as live odds and in-play betting.
• Interest or experience in sports betting or the iGaming domain.
• Experience with observability, instrumentation, alerting, and production monitoring using Datadog.
