Backend Engineer – Data Acquisition (Rust)

What you will do

• Design, build, and improve backend systems for data acquisition handling close to 200 million requests per day.
• Develop the in-house proxy layer and browser tooling, including request routing, connection handling, and protocol-level behaviour.
• Investigate difficult crawler problems, test alternative approaches, and turn successful solutions into robust reusable systems.
• Build clear interfaces and guardrails that enable other teams and AI agents to use the infrastructure reliably.
• Maintain code quality through testing, observability, security, and maintainability practices, including for AI-assisted code.
• Collaborate with crawler engineers, DevOps, and Security to deliver scalable solutions.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience building, deploying, and operating production backend services in a cloud environment.
• Experience with Rust or C/C++, or strong backend experience in another language with a willingness to develop deep Rust expertise.
• Solid understanding of HTTP, TCP/IP, TLS, and proxies.
• Curiosity about browser and network-stack internals, with an R&D mindset and comfort working through ambiguity.
• Strong analytical and debugging skills, including packet captures, profilers, and source-code analysis.
• Fluent English and clear communication skills for effective teamwork.
