Web Content Specialist (Drupal/SEO)

Location: Hybrid, with approximately two days per week onsite in McLean, Virginia; occasional travel to other local facilities may be required. The position is also listed in Reston, Virginia.

Salary: $73,770.00–$125,408.00 annually.

What you will do

• Create, edit, maintain, and publish content for FHWA Drupal websites, SharePoint sites, research-project databases, and other online platforms.
• Write and edit web pages, articles, alternative text, user manuals, training materials, and procedural documentation.
• Coordinate content reviews, approvals, and quarterly certification processes while monitoring information for accuracy.
• Apply SEO, plain-language, GPO and Chicago style guidance, and Section 508 accessibility requirements.
• Correct broken links and formatting issues and improve readability, organization, usability, and navigation.
• Perform database content coordination, entry, editing, sorting, filtering, and basic web-image optimization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related discipline.
• 5–7 years of web content management experience, including at least 3 years within the last 5 years.
• Experience with web writing, editing, proofreading, content quality control, Drupal or a comparable enterprise CMS, SEO, SharePoint, and database content coordination.
• Experience with Section 508 web accessibility, including meaningful alternative text.
• Ability to develop training materials and user documentation, coordinate stakeholders, and manage multiple short deadlines.
• Ability to work onsite in McLean, Virginia approximately two days per week.

Nice to have

• Transportation experience, especially highway and surface transportation.
• Experience with Drupal 10.
• Strong analytical, creative problem-solving, collaboration, organization, and communication skills.
