Survey Technician I

Location: The Woodlands, Texas; New Orleans, Louisiana; Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; or Nashville, Tennessee. On-site outdoor field work with frequent travel and overnight stays away from home base.

Salary: $20–$31 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit.

What you will do

• Assist senior technicians with ground-based pole inspections and transmission and distribution asset data collection.
• Capture field photographs and document poles, conductors, framing, hardware, and equipment according to project standards.
• Support conductor observations, hammer sounding and sound testing on wood poles, and handheld or ground-based LiDAR operations.
• Organize, review, label, transfer, and upload field data while identifying obvious gaps or errors.
• Support UAS crews with equipment staging, battery management, visual observation, and general crew logistics.
• Follow safety procedures around utility infrastructure, active roadways, traffic, and the public while traveling to remote field sites.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• No prior field survey experience required; entry-level candidates are welcome.
• Basic comfort using tablets, smartphones, cameras, and field data collection applications.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Ability to travel frequently, including extended overnight stays away from home base.
• Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods, carry field equipment, work on uneven terrain, and perform outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Nice to have

• Coursework or training in a related technical field.
• Experience in outdoor fieldwork, construction, utilities, or data collection.
• Willingness to learn LiDAR operation, hammer sounding techniques, and conductor observation procedures.
