Staff Prototyping Engineer, Android

Location: Remote within the California–San Francisco Metro area

Base salary: $197,300–$313,700 annually; in select San Francisco and New York City metropolitan locations, $237,700–$344,700 annually.

What you will do

• Lead engineering for zero-to-one mobile experiences used by millions of people.
• Prototype and define Android user experiences for major product opportunities.
• Lead ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives from technical exploration through production rollout and long-term evolution.
• Partner with Product, Design, Backend, and mobile engineering teams to balance user needs, technical constraints, and maintainability.
• Influence engineering direction through technical leadership, product reviews, mentoring, and mobile development best practices.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including complex Android applications at scale.
• Deep expertise in Kotlin and modern Android development.
• Strong knowledge of Android architecture, application lifecycle, concurrency, networking, and performance optimization.
• Experience leading ambiguous, organization-wide technical initiatives and aligning executive, Engineering, Product, and Design stakeholders.
• A related technical degree is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Jetpack Compose, modern Android architecture patterns, async/await, actors, and dependency injection frameworks.
• Experience leading large-scale products, features, or product transformations across multiple teams.
• Experience with research, usability testing, data, and experimentation.
• Open-source or Android community contributions and external recognition of technical leadership.
• Experience building collaboration, productivity, messaging, AI, or enterprise software.
