TL;DR
Lead Electrical Engineer (Avionics): Designing, testing, and integrating circuit card assemblies and electrical subsystems for cockpit voice recorders, flight data recorders, and integrated data acquisition systems with an accent on analog, digital, power, and high-speed circuit design. Focus on developing safety-critical airborne electronics, conducting certification and environmental testing, mitigating circuit risks through simulation and prototyping, and leading cross-functional engineering work.
Location: On-site in St Petersburg, Florida or Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States

What you will do
- Design, verify, integrate, sustain, upgrade, and manage obsolescence for circuit card assemblies from concept through implementation.
- Develop and review electrical schematics, support PCB layout, select components, perform circuit simulation, and complete product testing.
- Create design descriptions, requirements traceability, bills of materials, PCB data, trade studies, and complete technical data packages.
- Plan and execute board-level test procedures, design reviews, certification activities, troubleshooting, and root-cause failure investigations.
- Identify high-risk circuit functions and lead early prototyping, simulation, and risk-mitigation activities.
- Coordinate with software, mechanical, FPGA firmware, test, certification, project management, customers, vendors, and other engineering disciplines while mentoring junior engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of relevant experience, or a graduate degree with at least 8 years of related experience.
- Experience designing analog, digital, power, and high-speed circuits, including high-reliability electronics.
- Experience with CCA and PCB design, schematic capture, layout constraints, simulation, testing, and troubleshooting; experience with Altium, Xpedition, OrCAD, or HyperLynx is relevant.
- Knowledge of RTCA DO-160 guidance and commercial aviation engineering design standards.
- Experience with product, system-level, environmental, and certification testing; FPGA firmware or DO-254 experience is an advantage.
- Strong written, verbal, presentation, collaboration, leadership, scheduling, costing, and technical communication skills, including the ability to support geographically dispersed teams and travel when required.
