Staff Accountant, Financial Operations (AI Marketplace)

Location: San Francisco

Salary: $110K–$130K annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Own accounts payable, including recruiter payouts, vendor bills, expense reports, reimbursements, and approval controls.
• Support accounts receivable by preparing placement invoices, applying cash, monitoring aging, and following up on overdue accounts.
• Process refunds, credits, and recruiter clawbacks for fired, rescinded, and reneged offers according to contract terms.
• Prepare journal entries, accruals, supporting schedules, and balance-sheet reconciliations as part of the monthly close.
• Reconcile Stripe payouts, fees, and refunds to the general ledger.
• Support audit, tax, and payroll-related requests while documenting and automating manual processes.

Requirements

• 1–3 years of accounting experience, ideally in a startup or public accounting environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• Experience with both accounts payable and accounts receivable, including payment processing, cash application, and collections follow-up.
• Knowledge of debits and credits, accruals, reconciliations, and close deadlines.
• Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, including working with large transaction exports and pivot tables.
• Organized approach and ability to explain and resolve accounting variances.

Nice to have

• Marketplace or usage-based business experience.
• Stripe experience with payments, payouts, and fee reconciliation to the general ledger.
• CPA eligibility or progress toward CPA qualification.
• Startup accounting or Big Four/regional audit experience with ownership of processes end to end.
