Mental Health Adviser, Casework

Location: Hybrid, contractually aligned to the Milton Keynes office; occasional office attendance is expected, approximately twice per year.

Salary: £38,784–£46,049 per year.

What you will do

• Provide specialist one-to-one interventionist support to students with enduring or complex mental health difficulties and students in crisis.
• Manage a mental health caseload, monitor and escalate risk, maintain professional standards, and keep accurate records.
• Coordinate referrals between university services and external mental health and support organisations.
• Help students understand how mental health affects academic engagement and progression in line with the Fitness to Study policy.
• Advise and train university staff on mental health awareness and support for students experiencing mental health difficulties.
• Work with internal stakeholders and external providers to reduce barriers to successful study and progression.

Requirements

• Degree or equivalent professional qualification in mental health nursing, psychology, social work, counselling, or a related discipline.
• Continuing professional development and certification in a specialist intervention such as CBT, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, or coaching.
• Experience supporting adults with mental health, emotional, or psychological difficulties and conducting mental health assessments.
• Experience managing caseloads, monitoring risk, responding to crises, prioritising cases, and maintaining data-protected records.
• Experience working in multiagency settings and building effective relationships through empathetic listening, influencing, negotiation, facilitation, and conflict resolution.
• Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check required.
