Senior Systems Engineer, Database Infrastructure (MySQL)

What you will do

• Design and build core components of the database platform across self-managed and cloud-managed infrastructure.
• Operate replication topology, failover automation, backup and restore, and related operational tooling.
• Manage kernel tuning, storage configuration, compute and disk selection to meet throughput, latency, and durability targets.
• Contribute to database fleet capacity planning and migrations to new virtual machine and disk generations.
• Collaborate with engineering teams through database design reviews and infrastructure planning.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to production incidents.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in software engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience; degree-based alternatives are accepted.
• Proven experience maintaining and delivering production software in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python.
• Strong expertise with MySQL internals, including InnoDB, GTID, semi-synchronous replication, replication lag, query routing, and production performance diagnosis.
• Experience with resilient, scalable systems and production database infrastructure.
• Ability to work remotely from the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with production database sharding and cross-shard query costs.
• Strong systems-level programming experience in Go, Python, Ruby, or Rust.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure or another major cloud provider and managed database offerings.
• Experience with large-scale database infrastructure migrations and replication-based cutovers.
