Sr Engineer, Software Automation (Medical Devices)

Location: On-site in Irvine, California, United States

Annual salary: $100,000–$130,000, plus bonus or incentive pay.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks and infrastructure for instrument and system-level testing.
• Develop reusable test libraries, device interfaces, protocol libraries, utilities, and common automation components.
• Build software simulators and emulators for hardware devices and external systems to support isolated and reproducible testing.
• Mentor engineers and establish best practices for software architecture, code quality, maintainability, and reuse.
• Participate in technical design and code reviews and provide technical leadership for test automation initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, with 5+ years of software engineering or test automation experience.
• Strong Python development experience, including object-oriented programming, debugging, and reusable software components.
• Experience designing and maintaining automated test frameworks or substantial automation infrastructure.
• Experience testing complex systems involving software, hardware, embedded devices, and communication interfaces.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD systems, debugging, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration.

Nice to have

• Experience with medical devices, embedded systems, regulated products, laboratory equipment, or test instrumentation.
• Experience with serial, USB, TCP/IP, Bluetooth/BLE, or similar communication technologies.
• Experience developing device simulators, emulators, mocks, or hardware-in-the-loop test solutions.
• Experience with Python test frameworks such as pytest.
• Familiarity with medical device software verification and design control processes.
