Director, Mechanical Engineer (Defense Tech)

What you will do

• Lead more than 150 mechanical engineers and managers supporting the Intel & Cyber sector product and program portfolio.
• Define and execute the mechanical engineering strategy across people, processes, tools, technology, and product roadmaps.
• Coordinate personnel, laboratory resources, engineering tools, and resource allocation across programs and product development.
• Direct technical, schedule, and cost performance for mechanical engineering work, including proposal and program reviews.
• Approve technical solutions, cost estimates, schedules, and mechanical engineering content for programs and IRADs.
• Partner with Chief Engineers on strategy alignment, cross-team collaboration, technical execution, and sector objectives.

Requirements

• Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance with a favorable polygraph required.
• U.S. citizenship and eligibility for classified-information access are required for security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree and at least 15 years of related experience, or graduate degree and at least 13 years of related experience.
• In lieu of a degree, at least 19 years of related experience.
• Strong background in mechanical design, analysis, manufacturing processes, and technical leadership.
• Experience leading engineering teams, managing complex programs, and working across matrix organizations.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in engineering or management.
• Knowledge of digital engineering, automation, or AI-driven mechanical design tools.
• Experience with large Department of Defense proposals, communications systems, requirements, integration, and risk mitigation.
• Deep experience with Earned Value Management Systems, metrics, and data-driven decisions.
• Experience providing technical briefings to executive stakeholders and managing multiple management layers.
